A very warm welcome to Lauro Golf Bowls Club’s website
If you are thinking of taking up bowls for the first time here are some quick facts about the game which might explain why you should try it:
What is Outdoor Lawn Bowls?
Outdoor lawn bowls is an engaging and strategic sport enjoyed by individuals of all ages. Played on a flat, manicured surface, the aim is to roll biased balls (called bowls) to get as close as possible to a smaller target ball, known as a jack. This precision sport fosters not only individual skill but also camaraderie among players, making it a popular choice for community recreation.
The Benefits of Joining a Lawn Bowls Club
Joining an outdoor lawn bowls club offers a multitude of benefits. Firstly, it provides a wonderful opportunity for social interaction, making new friends and building community ties. Regular participation in club activities also encourages physical fitness and enhances concentration. Moreover, lawn bowls can be a relaxing yet competitive experience, appealing to both leisure seekers and those looking for a challenge.
Furthermore, it is a game for all ages (we have quite a few players still playing competitively in their 70’s and 80’s). It is also very much gender neutral. We have a healthy gender balance at the club with our current gender split 60/40 male/ female playing members. This split is mirrored in our league teams and provincial team representation.
Getting Started in Lawn Bowls
If you’re interested in trying your hand at lawn bowls, you can contact us here at Lauro Golf Bowls Club where we offer free introductory sessions for beginners. These sessions focus on teaching the basic techniques and rules of the game. Additionally, we provide the basic necessary equipment, so newcomers don’t need to invest immediately. It’s a sport that blends skill with enjoyment, perfect for anyone looking to enjoy the great outdoors while engaging in healthy activity.
So a few pointers about why you should try our club.

Open all year round, our full size eight rink, all-weather surface, looks onto a stunning panorama of olive groves and citrus trees with the beautiful Sierra de Míjas mountains and Guadalhorce Valley as a backdrop.
Aside from the bowls club facilities, the Lauro Golf Resort has accommodation (to rent and for sale), fully licensed bars and restaurants (open all day), 27 holes of golf, putting green, golf academy and driving range, ‘padel’ tennis and a nearby equestrian centre – all surrounded by acre upon acre of beautiful countryside and national forest.
Unlike the busy Costa clubs, we have no traffic jams and plenty of onsite parking (including for coaches) as well as disabled access to the rinks.
We welcome new members – and whether you are an old hand or a new bowler you will be made very welcome here. Coaching is available and free of charge.
In addition, we are always interested to hear from touring sides or other clubs looking to arrange fixtures. Clubs wishing to visit can do so by via bowls tour specialists or by contacting Jane Richardson. Be sure to explore our site from the menu links above and please get in touch if you can’t find what you need.
